A Team News!
Grasshoppers A made a solid start to the Harlington league before Christmas, improving on last season's results despite a depleted squad. Currently sitting in third place in the premier division, the team has played five closely-fought games, winning all but one.
Long-term absences through injuries and illness left the squad without it's two first-choice shooters Susannah and Claire Lawrence, whose loss had an impact on positions down the rest of the court. Despite this, defensive and central court players stepped into the breach, with particular highlights being Claire Hall at GD and Moira as GA, along with the odd poaching from other teams when desperate for a GS.
The final game before the winter break saw a return to shooting form with Claire back and the addition of new player Julie, much to Harlington Youth's dismay. The final result was a convincing 45-18 victory, a score which even merited a mention in the Five News daily email from John Suchet.
With Susannah finally fully recovered from a broken finger, the squad appears to be getting back to full strength and depth. And being hot on the heels of second place Charville and reigning champions Harlington, Grasshoppers A look forward to having even more success in 2008, and maybe even gatecrashing those elusive top two spots.
